There are a lot of people out there with opinions these days. A lot. And there are apparently a lot of things to have opinions about. And all those opinions are flying around and banging into each other and creating a lot of noise and mess and all of that noise and mess jams into our brains as we spend time on our phones or computers instead of doing other things.

Even now, right, you can kind of sense, oh great…here comes someone else with an opinion.

Nope, not going there.

Just stating a fact, just laying the groundwork. A lot of us are on our phones and computers more than usual because a lot has been happening this last year and on our phones and computers are all kinds of messes and noises all clamoring to get into our brains as more and more people have opinions and those opinions collide with each other more and more and create more noise and more mess for our brains.

Amidst all of this there is the common refrain, passed on and shared for a long time…to just…in times of trouble, or really any time…but especially in times of trouble…to…

To…

Follow your heart.

Okay. Cool. Thanks.

And how exactly do you do that?

Surrounded by all the noise and bullshit, with all those voices clamoring around and you know, the above paragraph, how do you tune out all of that crap, how do you tune out your own mind, your own ego, your own clamoring mess, to listen instead to your heart, to ask the questions you want to ask of it, and to hear its response?

At Christmas this year I bought myself a subscription to Ruda Lande’s out of the box series. This year there has been no clowning going on, the theaters– there’s all this noise and mess, so I said, you know what, I am going to turn to matters of the spirit, I am going to listen to and play with the spiritual aspects of life because I am missing this right now and by giving attention to this, well, that’s only good, and maybe it will lead to more things, it will at least be a nice break from all the base garbage getting slung all over the place.

By the way, I recommend his series if you want to spend some time getting into spiritual things and playing there. He has a lot of exercises that share a lot in common with clowning, the distinction being, if you can put it that way, and I don’t know, but I need to try to put it in words somehow so…in clowning you go to play and encounter the spirit, here you go to the spirit and end up playing. Blech. Whatever. Blah blah blah blah. In poo you go to poo and then when you poo you sometimes poo.

I like that much better. Yes. How’s that for a plug! ha.

While I was going through this series, somehow in my youtube feed a video about an ancient shaman practice popped up. All that noise and mess brought something else? Well okay then.

I watched this video and began to do as it suggested. For the last two weeks I’ve made a practice of following the steps laid out by the speaker.

As a result, I feel grounded, I feel at peace, I feel connected to my path, I feel like I am making choices from the best place in me, doubts and concerns and lingering issues over which way to go with some decisions have disappeared.

If you want to follow your heart and you’re looking for a way to do it, you should try this practice out.

Check it out.

Okay, that’s it.

See you next time!
